Mr. Li is an experienced corporate and securities law attorney whose current practice focuses on private equity, venture capital, fund formation and mergers and acquisitions.  Mr. Li started his legal career with Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP at its New York office in 2007.  At Davis Polk, Mr. Li practiced with the firm’s Capital Markets, Investment Management, Financial Institutions and Credit groups, and developed a broad-based and well-rounded skill set.  Mr. Li joined the New York office of DLA Piper LLP in 2011 and practiced with the firm’s Corporate & Securities group until leaving to found MagStone's New York office. 

Mr. Li has worked on a number of significant transactions, including the restructuring of American Insurance Group during the Financial Crisis, the IPO of Visa Inc. (then the world’s biggest IPO by gross proceeds), the IPO of Agricultural Bank of China (then the world’s biggest IPO by gross proceeds), the August 2010 corporate bonds offering by IBM (setting the then record for lowest corporate bond coupon rate), and Shanghai Greenland Group’s investment in the Atlantic Yards project in Brooklyn, New York (a landmark U.S. expansion project for Chinese real estate developers).  Mr. Li was a lead attorney as underwriter or issuer counsel in numerous corporate finance transactions, involving issuers such as Alamo Re, Appvion, Best Buy, BancorpSouth, Central European Media Enterprises, Campbell Soup, Dynex Capital, Enstar Group Limited, Family Dollar, Hunt Companies, M&T Bank, PepsiCo, Range Resources and Scripps Networks Interactive.

Mr. Li advises clients on a wide spectrum of U.S. securities law matters, with emphases on the Securities Act, the Securities Exchange Act, the Investment Advisers Act and FINRA regulations.  Mr. Li is an experienced private investment fund attorney, with experience in representing large funds affiliated with top Wall Street financial institutions as well as start-up funds. 

Mr. Li graduated magna cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center with a Juris Doctor degree, and was named to the Order of Coif.  During law school, Mr. Li worked as a judicial intern for Her Honorable Senior Judge Gladys Kessler, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and as a law clerk for the Board on Professional Responsibility, D.C. Supreme Court. Mr. Li has a B.A. degree from Peking University and an M.A. degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Mr. Li is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
